Holidays

Well I don't know about you but I love the holiday season. The lights, the snow, the shopping and all of the wonderful scents of the season! This time of year is like a roller coaster, the excitement of the holiday season is somewhat brought down by the thought of finals week BUT after finals we are free and ready to move on to the next semester. Craziness. Have a good week everyone :)

Busy week!

Well the full effects of school and work are finally setting in. It's been a crazy week starting off being late and locked out of the CPR class I was supposed to attend at 8 in the morning. Soo now I have to reschedule that again...then my dog keeps escaping out of the yard so I have to run around looking for her! And of course the homework is getting more intense, more papers to be written. Fun stuff. Oh well I think I am more productive under pressure :) . I should be thankfull I'm not sick yet..seems like more and more poeple in my classes have been missing due to illness.

Well have a good weekend everyone!

Intro To Healthcare Speakers

Hi Everyone,
I really liked the two speakers we had at Intro to Healthcare lastnight. The speakers both had or still have an opsticle in which they have to overcome in their everyday lives. Our first speaker had an allergy to latex. She talked about her everyday battle of keeping latex free. There were so many things that didn't even occur to me, in which we use everyday, that have rubber in them. Some everyday utinsels she has to be careful with are shoes, hairbrush, toothbrush, tv remotes, and eating out because restraunts often prepare their food with rubber gloves.
Our other speaker had mouth cancer. She told us the story from the day she found the growth under her tongue, to the day she was told she had cancer, the radiation process, and her road to recovery. Just hearing her story was very was enough to touch our hearts. I have heard cancer stories before, but this truly topped them off. It is said that when you have been free of cancer for five years it won't come back. She is about to reach her fourth year. I ask that we all keep her in our prayers.

New Classes

Hey everyone!

Even though classes have been going for four weeks now I've been so busy I haven't gotten around to talking about them! So far all of my classes are going really well. I'm taking Microbiology with the lab, Intro to Healthcare, Pathophysiology, and Sociology. I'm nervous about how hard my Micro class might get, but hopefully if I study like crazy I will be able to still get an A! This week has been pretty long for me so far. I woke up on Sunday with a horrible sore throat and went in to the doctor on Monday to find out that I have strep throat :( Its awful! Hopefully I will be feeling better this weekend because I'm going to Nebraska City with one of my friends for Apple Jack. I'm not exactly sure what Apple Jack is but she keeps assuring me that its a blast.

Long time no see!

Hello again from Springfield IL!!! I miss everyone back at home in NE, but things are going great here! I have had the chance to see a lot of pathology and I am getting less and less dependent everyday! Pretty soon I'll get my "training wheels" off as they tell me. I am gaining more confidence in my scanning skills and ability to find pathology without someone there watching over me. My days go quick and I think next thing I know I'll be done! I went up to Des Moines this past weekend to see my fiance. I also got to see my classmate who is doing her clincial in Ames IA so that was awesome! This next weekend my friends from Peoria are coming to visit me here in Springfield, so I have been keeping myself somewhat surrounded by friends. Not much else, just wanted to say hi to everyone back at home!
Until next time...

3 Day Weekend!

So I'm sure everyone is pumped for the 3 day weekend ahead! But I am more pumped for the 1st Husker game on Sat.! Unfortunatly I won't be attending but will be watching PPV! I'm sure they will kill FAU...do doubt. I really don't like football but it's like high school when you go to the games and show school spirit, it sucks you in and that's what it is all about, supporting Nebraska and their awesome football squad! I don't know how anyone could live in Nebraska and not be a Husker fan, beyond me. I was also thinking about visiting the Sate Fair since I have never been. Probably should since I know I won't be driving to Grand Island next year for it that's for sure. Well have a good holiday weekend everyone!

First week of classes are over and it's Friday! That makes everyone happy! The first week went well just a bunch of Gen Ed classes :P Can't wait to get into the more hands on stuff. Nothing big planned for my weekend, going home (Bloomfield) to help with a chicken feed for our new medical clinic that is being built...pretty exciting :)

First Week of Classes

Coming straight out of high school, I began my first week of college classes on Monday the 24th. I am almost done with the first week and have felt a bit overwhelmed. After getting all the syllabi and even having homework the first week I've been pretty stressed out. College is definitely going to be a lot tougher than high school and I am going to have to spend many more hours studying. I am sure once I get into the groove of things and get my schedule worked out, it will get easier. But over all, I am very happy with my decision of coming to college here at Bryan. All the faculty and staff have been very welcoming and I have already made new friends. Mckayla

Hello from Illinois!!

Where Abe Lincoln practiced law.

I have officially moved into my apartment in Springfield IL to start my full time clinicals for 8 months! My parents helped me move and we did some sight seeing, hence the pictures. Today was my first day at St. John's Hospital here in IL. It was so much fun, I got to see a lot of things I haven't gotten to see yet, which made my day that much more exciting! (If you haven't been keeping up, I am doing my adult cardiac sonography full time clinicals, as I am in my second year of school). We do all sorts of procedures believe it or not (not just same old same old, phew!). We had one echo in the cath lab, so I got to see some blood squirt out of the femoral artery as they were placing the catheters in and up to the heart. I also got to see them check out a fetus heart (so a baby still in the womb), which was incredible to see as well. I also got to see a couple stress echos, which Lincoln doesn't do a whole lot of, so I am glad I get to experience it here. These are where the patient walks on a tredmill until their heart rate reaches a specific rate and we compare baseline and stressed heart. Ok well this is getting long, obviously it is a lot of fun and I'm excited to get back and see more and scan more as well!
Apparently it is good luck to rub Abe's nose...hence the reason his nose has been rubbed raw haha.

Until next time....

Last Week Here

I am officially moving in less than a week!! Summer just started on August 8th and is shortly about to end August 24th. Classes ended well, I am excited to officially be done with classes (maybe forever!). I'm excited to get out into the clinical setting and have fun putting my new knowledge into real life.
I've been running around like crazy this week with last minute errands for wedding stuff, moving, etc. My fiance has already moved to Des Moines and I miss him like crazy already, it may be a rough 8 months, but it will fly by fast! I am excited to move and learn a new place and people, I'm just not excited to be living alone, but it will make me stronger I'm sure.
I got myself some new running shoes today so I can keep motivated to workout now, and while I'm in Springfield, yeah...gotta fit in my dress ya know (May will be here before I know it)! ;) Alright well I need to get back to working on my capstone paper (yes class is out, but we have these huge paper/presentations due, bummer I know). I am doing my topic on Ostium Primum, a congenital defect that can go undected and found in adults later, which was what happened in the case I am presenting on. It is pretty interesting, I love researching it! Makes me think I may actually get into Pediatric echos someday, it really keeps my attention, but it is scary because a tiny life can be at the mercy of your skills...eak!
Until next time...

Week off

My week off was very relaxing! I didn't do much of anything besides laying around and occasionally going to the lake. It went by pretty fast and going back to work yesterday was pretty tough. Now I only have three weeks from today until classes start and in a way I'm looking forward to it! My schedule will slow down a little once classes start because I won't be working as many hours. I finally ordered my books and that made it reality of how close summer is to really being over! Before we know it there will be snow and ice on the ground.

Vacation!

As much as I have been working between my two jobs lately I have been exhausted! It doesn't help that I have had to go out of town every weekend since the middle of June for something so I really haven't had any time to rest. After this Thursday at noon I have 10 days of and I am super excited! I am planning on doing absolutely nothing besides maybe going to the lake and working on my tan. This past weekend I was in Kearney for Cruise Night and it was insane! There were about 2000 people lining the sides of 25th St. My mom gets the police reports at her job and she said there were 60 mips and 103 traffic violations! That shows you how the Kearney Police have nothing better to do than look for minors drinking and people turning into the wrong lane or going 3 mph over the speed limit.

Cruise Night

This week has been an extremely long week. I was out on the lake all weekend so that wore me out and on top of that I woke up on Monday with a horrible cold! I can't believe that there is already only one month left of summer. Before I know it I will be back in classes. I haven't even ordered my books yet so I should probably start thinking about doign that so that classes don't get here and my books haven't come in yet! I'm excited to go back to Kearney this weekend to spend time with my family and go to Cruise Night. Cruise Night happens once a year in Kearney when people from all over bring in their classic cars and drive them up and down 25th street all night. Its really cool to see all of the cars and watch the burn-out contests. Next weekend I'm going down to Pawnee City for a mud volleyball tournament and that should be pretty interesting since mud and I don't really get along to well, but it should be a good time.

Boysenberry Lane

So while everyone is still in transition for new student assistants in the admissions office, I figured I could up date everyone on my recent Illinois accomplishment. I finally found a place to live when I leave for Springfield IL next month for my full time clinicals. It has the most adorable name...Boysenberry Lane...which makes me smile everytime I say it. It is in a good part of town (as I had recently learned there are some not so hot places there), so I am a little more excited about going, since I really don't want to. I also had my last day of part time clinicals here at BryanLGH East. We completed 45 hours, basically shadowing, and scanning a couple of the basic pictures. I loved it, which makes me want to get out in the real world even more.
In terms of my wedding planning, I finally found a photographer and we will be getting a few engagement pictures taken this weekend, and I have no clue what I am going to wear, but I guess we are going to Wilderness Ridge to take them so that will be fun climbing around their cool waterfall. Now I just need to find a cake person....any ideas???
Alright I better get going I have a big day of class tomorrow which includes a quiz, lab, and picking our topic for our capstone presentations...I'm thinking Osteogenesis Imperfecta...fun stuff.
Until next time..

Last blog for Riley

So I resigned as a student assistant in hopes to get a hospital job. I will still be working in the library, but it just seems that I'm being trapped in the office and I need to spread my metaphorical wings. With the rise in student ambassadors I haven't been able to work with in coming students that much and that was my favorite part so maybe I'll try to be a student ambassador in later semesters. I'm excited to move on but of coarse I'll miss my coworkers, especially my office buddies. The Lisas and I have gotten so close that I will definately come visit them at least once a week, KT and I have been here for so long that I'm actually pretty tired of her... Just kidding katie! I hope you text me every time you miss Nebraska while you're in Illinois! I don't think I'll miss Shelby because I will be hanging out with her outside of school. I imagine that everyone will miss my Coheed and Cambria, Bob Marley and Flight of the Conchords background music. I would like to think everybody for the card it brightened up my last day. Bye everyone!

Vacation

Last week I was on vacation Thursday through Sunday so I'm going to be dragging all week this week. My parents loved waking us up at 7 a.m. every morning so we could start doing things and it was awful! I haven't been up that early in forever. We spent a lot of time shopping which was definately okay with me, but it was so hot out that even walking across the parking lot to the car I would be sweating. This weekend I'm going to Alma with my roommate for the 4th and I'm hoping that the weather stays nice enough that we can be out on the lake the ENTIRE weekend. Other than that I don't have anything to exciting to talk about. I just spend my time working so I can save a little extra money this summer, but with all of the shopping I've been doing its not working out so well!

Busy week thus far

I went to Transformers at midnight, meh not really worth it. It was cool though. I really liked it but it was just an action movie. Not much of a plot. I was hoping for more characters but it was pretty weak... The much anticipated Soundwave didn't do anything, and there were only 3 or 4 new Autobots. Each movie is turning out to end up like each episode of the cartoon was. Decepticans have some ridiculous earth destroying plan, Autobots beat them up, Decepticons run away... but it was still a fun journey. In other movie news, I tried to watch Rob Zombies Holloween alone at midnight on Monday... That was a bad bad bad idea. The little kid they got to play Michael was CRAZY!!! he was such a good horror actor I hope that he's in more scary movies but I'll be sure to watch them with someone! I fixed my flat tire in Omaha and got to see Harper's Island. My mom likes how the show is going but I was really hoping it'd be part of the wedding party, however they did say that there could be a second killer so fingers crossed theres a plot twist! Anyway, I am going to take kt's fan because she left it muahahahaha! And I will miss my office sister alot but I know she's on to bigger and better things so congradulations to her. But shelby and I can take care of things for the time being. well thats all I got for now

PS I would have put pictures of transformers, or katie, or something else rediculous but the picture things arent working so ill have to use another computer some other time

Missing the Office

Ok, so I read Riley's blog, and it made it hit home that I no longer work in the adm office...(when he used my quote, glad to know you liked it even though you don't know what it means). I miss everyone already, and I know it will be really tough for me to go to Springfield IL in August. This semester has been challenging, and honestly I should be studying right now, but decided to take a blogging break...we had one huge test that was broken up into two, so we took the first part Monday, and now tomorrow (Wed) is the other half, and hopefully the easier half! Clinicals were slow today, but it was fun looking at a lot of the past echo's done in the lab, checking out some cool pathologies and such. July is almost here and it is crazy how fast time is flying, probably because I don't want it to. Anyways I better get back, but I had to have a shout out to my office people because I miss you a lot and I really hope you aren't getting backed up on work with only having 2 students in there right now!!
Until next time...

US Open!

Thank God for rain delays all through the US Open. Because today I got to watch a live stream of the final Round and Bethpage park while I worked. I started with the leaders at hole 1o and it was exciting for about 7 of the 8 remaining holes. It included an eagle for Mickelson and a come back from Duval, but in the end Lucas Glover was able to hold on to his -4 score to win. In other news, I have watched a few more movies, all have been descent. I had a flat on my bike, that rocked. And I accidentally deleted Harpers Island off my DVR before watching it... RRRRRRR!!!!
But hey gotta take it with a grain of salt, like katie always says (and since I have no idea what it means i decide to just use it in everyday conversation) Any way, It was a long week last week and I'm ready to tackle this week before it tackles me

Still here

So it has been way too long since I blogged last...sorry, I have been very busy, and haven't been in the admissions office much since I was helping with the High School Health Career Camp and the Roommate Round-up...but I will really be absent from the office after this week, as this Friday is my last day in the office. I have a lot on my plate right now, and with my wedding planning, class, and moving in August, I knew it was best to no longer work in the office. I will miss it a lot, especially the people, but I will still blog so don't worry!
I had another clinical day today, it went very well, I have been seeing a lot of pathologies, I'll list a few, if you are interested go look them up, maybe Echo is for you!
-Bicuspid Aortic Valve
-Severe Mitral and Tricuspid Regurgitation
-Aortic Stenosis
-LV Stage 1 diastolic dysfunction
-LV systolic dysfunction
-Right side enlargement (RV and RA)
-False Tendons (in the LV)
-Pulmonic Insufficiency (or pulmonic regurg)
-Aortic Insufficiency (or regurg)
And the list goes on and on...it is pretty exciting and fun!
I'll write again before the week is out!
Until next time...

Birthday!

Last Tuesday was my birthday and it was a pretty good day. I worked for awhile and then spent the rest of the day with my roommates and they took me shopping and out to dinner so that was pretty nice. Hopefully the weather will get nice here soon! I don't think the sun has came out the entire month of June. My family is going on vacation to Kansas City next week to visit my brother so that should be pretty fun. We are going to check out the new water park called the Schlitterbahn which is supposed to be one of the biggest water parks in the country I believe. Other than that I'm just going to be working as much as possible to save up some money.

gun to my head blog

So Every 18 seconds Sara is in here telling me what to blog about so I'm going to blog a reallty long blog for her to read because I think Shes bored. Topics... GO!!!!
1 Defiance is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Up there with Gangs of New York. Daniel Craig is very good in it but the best performance is fromLiev Schreiber, the guy that plays Sabertooth in the New Wolverine movie. I look forward to seeing him in a lot more movies hopefully.
2 Choke wasnt great. The concept of the movie was funny but it didnt have any moments when you actually laugh out loud. It's a lot better at the end when everything makes sense
3 Gran Torino couldn't live up to the hype others created for it. Good movie with a good message, but when all you hear for 4 month before you see it is how amazing it is, a lot is taken away.
4 since we are talking about wasting time on facebook on this months poll I thought I'd let everyone know I took a quiz and it turns out I'm Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, go figure, but don't worry if you think I'm too femanin to take that quiz I balanced it out with Which Transformer am I and turns out I'm Ultra Magnus... eh.
5 I beat a Spider-man Video game in less than 8 hours, so that was pretty cool.
6 Sara wanted me to post about celebrity gossip, but I hate how much attention they force upon celebrities, so I will always refuse to blog about rumors or gossip. It's pointless and annoying. Burn papparazzi.
Well thats it for now I guess I'll Blog next time I work, because I'm pretty sure Sara is in love with the blog, and loves reading about her favorite employees!

this weeks plans

This week I will be busy at Victoria's Secret because It's time for the Semi-Annual Sale. We have to redecorate the sales floor almost every night and so we will be there from about 4 to 11 at night, so it's a pretty intense week. I heard through the grape vine though that the back stocking area so that will boost my work spirit there. Last night I rented a movie at Blockbuster and they said I have unlimited rentals all week long, so I can go in at least every night to get a new movie. Last night I watched Valkyrie. It was really good but since it is about my favorite subject in history I knew all about it. But it was definitely still worth watching. this week I'm hoping to see The Spirit, Milk, Choke, Quantum of Solice, W., and Defiance. and maybe The Wrestler, Twilight (since it won so many MTV vma's( which is super bogus because Dark Knight was by far a better movie even before I saw it)), The new Punisher, and if there's time I'll find some others, look forward to movie reviews next time. Speaking of Movie reviews, The Hangover was fantastic. Funniest movie I've seen since Step Brothers. Zach Galaficanakis Really does what he is put in the movie to do, and the supporting actors have enough funny lines that he doesn't have to carry the movie by himself. It was a lot like Out Cold but instead this movie had a well deserved R-Rating.

Another thing I've been Interested in is this Show Harper's Island. Its a murder mystery/ horror show about a group of people that go to get married on the island they grew up on even though 7 years ago there was a mass murder. My mom and I have been guessing the killer every week, and last week we were convinced it was the main character because she was secretly psycho but this weeks episode seems to point to the groom of the wedding who was myt back burner killer. Last night my mom texted me after we watched it, and I quote ... "WHAT??? OMG!!!" hahahaha ooo Mom. So when they I believe there are 4 or 5 more episodes so I'm excited for it to get to the end.
Until Next time

Clinical Experience

So I had my first clinical experience this week. It was here at BryanLGH East in the Plaza. I was there from 9am-3pm and it went pretty fast. I loved it so much, I just wish I could skip the student part and just know how to be out there already! I think I will really enjoy scanning people's hearts every day! You definately never know what you will find, which makes it pretty exciting. It is almost like opening a present for the first time with each patient because there are always suprises (not necessarily bad either). I am excited to see more pathology...bad for the patient, but fun for us! I also like that we do not tell the patient what we find, I don't think I could handle that part, which is why I chose to do what I do. Ok well I have to get ready to go to the Allied Health Exploration Evening tonight, a classmate and I get to show potential students what we do! :)
Until next time...

BUSY!

So much for having a relaxing summer. I have been SUPER busy ever since school got out! I've been working a lot more hours and then when I get home from work something always needs done...the lawn needs mowed, my laundry needs done, the house needs cleaned, etc. Welcome to the real world I guess! This weekend I'm going home again to celebrate my birthday with my family. I'll finally be 19 on Tuesday! This summer my roommate and I are planning a week long trip to the Ozarks so I'm pretty excited for that. We're going to go down for a week and spend it doing nothing but boating, jet skiiing, and shopping!

Big Summer plans

So the Anberlin, Taking Back Sunday concert was pretty sweet, but even better then that... I went frolfing with Adam La-freaking-zzara! He was really cool and down to earth, but I buried him. He had never been before though so I guess I wont brag too much. (I was going to put a picture on here but the picture link won't work again so next time hopefully). I suppose he is the lead singer of Taking Back Sunday, so he's got that going for him. kt, that's super awesome about your wedding dress, ill bet it looks great on you. But anyway!!! I have a sweet Summer planned Early next month I'm going to a cabin in South Dakota right by a lake with my family, SWEET!!!! then the end of July my friend gets back from Field Training in Alabama, and Transformers comes out, wow. July i am going to save up some money for the WARPED TOUR. Probably the coolest tour that comes by Omaha. Where I will see bands like 3OH!3, Aiden, Attack attack, Bad Religion, Forever the Sickest Kids, Less Than Jake, the Devil wears Prada, we the kings, and Streetlight Manifesto. By the end of this summer I'll be hard pressed to find a band I haven't seen. Then in August I'm going to see Blink 182, Fall out boy, and Panic at the Disco. OOOO and lets not forget, I'm gonna try to get a caravan down to the Austin City Limits Music Festival to see Beastie Boys, Kings of Leon, and of course the worlds greatest band COHEED AND CAMBRIA.
So Yeah, my life is pretty sweet. just gotta keep working so I can make enough money to do all this stuff.

Wedding Stuff

~So I have officially purchased my wedding dress!! I bought it last Thursday the 21st at 11am :) I would put the link up to what it looks like but then it wouldn't be a suprise....but I will say I love it!! (it is from J'Maries in Lincoln, if you really want to know, look up style number 1136, pretty sure haha)
~My brother officially got married on Saturday the 23rd, so now I can say I have a sister! (in-law). I must say my parents are pretty crazy when it comes to the dance floor, it was funny to see them boogie like they did! :)
~T-minus 3 days until my physics board exam...I know it isn't wedding stuff, but it sorta is connected because in T-minus 3 days marks one more year to the day I get married!!!
Until next time...

Sweet Summer Time

-So I went to Wicked in Omaha last weekend with my wonderful mom and aunt....and wow it was probably one of my most favorite plays I have ever seen, and trust me I've seen a few in my day.
-I have also found my wedding dress (pretty sure) along with bridesmaids at J'Maries so I will probably be ordering that soon because if I do I get 100 dollars off! :)
-Studying for my board is coming along as well, I did over 200 questions last night in one of my study books and I definately knew more than I thought I would so that was encouraging.
-Not a whole lot else is going on with my summer, I am looking forward to my classes starting in June so I can be done with class forever...but I am sad that my days working the admissions office are limited :( But I will still blog so everyone can know how exciting my life is :)
Ok well until next time...

Riley and Shelby Team Up Blog!!!

So Shelby and I are busy so I decided to do Shelby's blog as a tag team! So first off we would Like to say it touched our hearts when kt mentioned how much she appreciates us in her blog. You are the coolest kt and we are going to miss you big time and theres no one that could fill your shoes! We would also like to say, "Wedding Website?" why havent we heard of such a website? Shelby wanted to make sure everyone knows that she thinks I'm super awesome and is envious of my beautiful redhair and wonders what I am doing at every moment of the day...

SUUUUUUUMMMAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Shelby and I agree that my title is the best attention getter to make everyone read my post. I went to the used concert on monday and it was crazy fun like you wouldnt believe. There are actually pictures of me crowd surfing! I went with 2 of my best friends that i hadnt seen until winter. It was a great time and I lost 4 pounds at the concert! And now I'm getting ready for Vegas! I just have to Spend some time with my friends, maybe get a hair cut and hopefully find my hat! I'm very excited for the City and then when I get back I'm going to the Taking Back Sunday and Anberlin Concert. So already summer has been one of the best of my life. I cant wait to inform my fans of all the awesome stuff Ive been up to

SuMmEr

So far my three week summer has gone great! I've biked everyday and gone to the gym at least 4-5 times a week as well. I have more time to work out right now so summer is definately treating me well! I feel so much better when I get to work out so I am a very happy camper right now! Plus I get to be in two weddings these next two weekends so at least I will feel better when I put those dresses on.
Studying for my board exam has gone slow, but I have cracked the books a couple times. Wedding planning is moving along well, I have picked out the bridesmaid dresses and I am excited to find mine. Colors are almost finalized and I am almost finished with our wedding webpage also!
Until next time...

Celebrate

Finals are over!! yeah!! So I am one semester closer to being done with classes forever!!! I only have a 3 week summer break because of summer session, so I am enjoying it by cleaning my room (to get it more prepared to move the middle of August to IL), and studying for the physics board exam, then off to my last semester of classes (yea!). It is weird how fast this year has gone by, I remember last year at this time I had just gotten accepted, and here I am so close to being on full time clinicals! I really enjoy being at BryanLGH College though, I almost wish my program was longer. I can't say enough how the faculty and staff are so supportive and fun (and of course the other students, esp those I work with)! :) That's about all the excitment I have going on right now.
Until next time...

Doin Busy Work!

So we are swamped in the office, its super awesome. im swamped with school, its super awesome. Victoria's Secret apparently is always swamped, its awesome... BUUUUT Summer Starts Saturday for me! I'm so excited to finally have free time! I can go frolfing! wash my suv! watch Good Will Hunting!!!! But my two most diobalical tests remain, Microbiology and Pathophysiology, but I will finish them bravely with my head held high. I am also excited because next weekend I am going to Las Vegas!!!!!!! I really havent had time to plan for it because of all the school and work. but i'll probably start packing saturday in preperation. other than that I havent been up to much, Sara mentioned my 21st Birthday, It was insane (too insane that they said I couldn't blog about it ;) ) . The school had a vollyball tournament which was the most fun I've had in a while with my friends. It was cold but sooo much fun! Shelby I'm glad you had fun at over easter, which sounds like a decade ago since we've been so busy, and Shelby you have got to frolf with me! you are always ditching. Katie's engaged? I honestly had no idea. Nobody ever tells me anything!!!! I better be an usher, or at least invited to the wedding. And "true confessions" huh? Well Sara wears glitter and sprays her hair pink when she goes out with her friends she was even spotted at a club and we got a picture! And thats it for me hope everyone has a wonderful summer, and check out our facebook page coming soon!

Finals

Once again its finals time and I'm super busy! I had 2 5-7 page papers and a take home test already and now all I have left are my 2 anatomy and pysiology finals. I will be so relieved when I am done! Tonight we are supposed to have our end of the year work party and I can't even go because I have to study :( Oh well I guess...it will all be worth it when I am done for the summer and work on my tan at the lake!

May 29

So looks like May 29 is a HUGE day 2 years in a row. This year, my May 29th will consist of taking my first board exam (we have to take 2). This first exam is the ultrasound physics board, so hopefully it goes well!! I'm nervous/excited about it, as I can't wait until it's over, but really hope I pass! May 29th of next year will be my wedding (officially) so kind of a random blog, but just thought it was interesting that May 29th will be the highlight of this year and next! :)
Not a whole lot else going on, school is approaching the end (for a couple weeks anyways, as we have to go through summer session), but it will be a nice break full of studying for my boards, finding an apartment in Springfield IL (for my clincials starting in August), and getting a wedding planned.
Wow is the weather outside amazing or what...80's for the next couple days! (Although I prefer cold, I can't complain too much I guess)
Sorry I didn't have any cool pictures this time...
Until next time...

Movies

Since I was home over the weekend for Easter I had plenty of time to catch up on movies. There is never anything to do in Kearney so I watched 3 movies and did plenty of homework over the weekend. My favorite movie by far that I saw this weekend was Nights in Rodanthe. Its definately one of those movies that has you hooked from the beginning, but was pretty much a "chick flick." It's a book by Nicholas Sparks, which I didn't know, so I'm going to have to read that once classes are over. I also saw Lakeview Terrace which was really good. It had a lot about racism and how bad it really can get which I found really interesting. Quarantine was another one that I saw and I absolutly hated it. I tried to force myself to fall asleep during it so that I wouldn't have to watch it with my family. It was a very poorly made horror movie and wouldn't recommend wasting your money to rent it. Overall I had a really good Easter and it was nice to see my family and catch up with them, but now its back to reality with school. Good thing we are down to our last few weeks because I am definately ready for summer!!

"True" Confessions

I keep teasing the Student Assistants - Riley, Katie and Shelby - that I'm going to write a True Confessions blog all about them. So there have been some really great "true" confessions that we've come up with that I'd like to share but probably shouldn't, but I'll share a tame one on each of them.

Shelby - Her real name is Emily.
Riley - He is already 21 he is just saying he is turning 21 this weekend so we all make a big deal out of his birthday.
Katie is planning to apply for one of those reality shows. And if you've been reading her blog this year you can guess which one - but she just got engaged, so who knows!

If you couldn't tell, I should have posted this all on April 1st as an April Fool's Day joke. None of the above "true" confessions are real. But maybe one day I will write one that is for REAL!

21st Birthday!

So I have my 21st Birthday this Sunday the 19th. I am very excited to see all of my friends, and finally get to go the bars with my good buddie ~kt~, hali, alli, and all the others! My bosses are very excited for me and everyone in the office surprised me with a happy birthday poster, and card. It made me soooo happy, thank you all so much! I am so excited to drink Magarittas with my parents at our favorite restaurant in Omaha, La Mesa! other than that not much is going on with me. Just finals coming up and papers to write. I guess thats it, hopefully i have some pictures from my sweet bday for my next blog!

TEE

So this week in lab we learned about the TEE (transesophageal echo) which is where they actually stick a probe (about the width of a ring finger) down the esophagus in order to image the heart. This is often done if there are problems with getting good pictures through the transthoracic method (the transducer on the outside of the chest, like ultrasounding babies, but the heart).
During the TEE, the patient is awake and they have to help swallow the probe as pictured below. It is a very quick procedure, as anyone would hope, since it is not too comfortable, as one could imagine.
Ok, so the black part is the tube that is sent down the throat, the handle with the circle is where the doctor holds and presses certain buttons to control the ultrasound beam and probe movements, and the white cord is simply attached to the machine.
It is some pretty facinating stuff, and nice because it isn't gross like surgery.
Welp that was my excitment for the week...Hope Everyone has a Great Holiday Weekend!!
Until next time...

Office Community!

So all of the student assistants in the Admissions Office got together and took pictures, just to show how united we are. I think by the smiles on all our faces we are happy to be working with each other. Yep Shelby and I are best buddies in the office and even hang out a little outside of class. Even our Bosses love seeing us at work. I took a picture of them but they were too modest to let me put it up... those sillies. And I got to go Frolfing yesterday, it wasnt good. I shot like 5 over on 9 holes. It was bad!!!! but thats why I have to keep going to get better. Until Next time

Echo Love

So today, while we had time before lab, my wonderful, amazing, group of adult cardiac sonography (echo) students decided to make it a photo op. Days like today really show how close we are and how much fun it is to have such a small class size. I just wanted everyone to see how through thick and thin, the people who surround you make all the difference. Luv ya girls!

Weird Weather

So 2 weeks ago I was going to go frisbee golfing, but I ran out of time that day so I thought o tomorrow I will go!!!! little did i know warm weather doesnt like Nebraska. All I want to do is get some sun and throw a frisbee, but NOOOOOOO! Hopefully by the begining of next week it will be warm enough to go frolfing with some buddies. Also this week I had an interview at Victoria Secret. I've gotten a lot of guff for it being a guy and all, but they hire guys for the back to do inventory. I was told I pretty much had the job but I had to wait for the paper work to go through. So im pretty excited to start there and finally have some money. Also coming up soon is my awesome 21st birthday... BOO YEAH!!!! KT and I are going to paint the town red! it's going to be a late weekend celebration, so if your 21 meet us down town! Thats about it though, so until next week

ENGAGED!

So, to let you all in to the awesome news, I am engaged! Saturday night (March 28, 2009), my boyfriend Nick asked me to marry him. He actually suprised me, which was a feat in itself, so I am impressed! I was sort of expecting it, so he couldn't do anything too out of the ordinary, so it was a simple day where we out to eat with friends, watched a movie, and once we were alone, he knelt down and asked! My reaction was not what I would have planned, but eventually I said YES! :)

Back 2 Reality

(Balagio/Mirage)
So Vegas was AWESOME! We saw everything we could see in the 3 actual days we were there. This is the Balagio water show with the Venetian behind it. We also checked out the Mirage Volcano that was just reconstructed this past year (it is shooting water but it also had fire flames coming out too).
Then we also checked out the Treasure Island pirate show. We walked basically the entire strip from the Luxor to the Stratosphere in one day, but it was crazy fun. I didn't spend too much on gambling because a couple reasons: 1. I don't win 2. I think it is pointless (probably because I don't win) 3. I don't know any of the table games so I strictly play penny and nickel slots. But we did find the one casino left that still plays with acutal coins (today they are all digital and simply print out cards that you go cash out in a machine)
(picture of my nickels)
We then went to Fremont street to watch the famous light show on the ceiling, it is so cool, you have to go there to truly get the experience. (picture below, the is the ceiling covering the street, there are millions of LCD color screens up there, it is amazing!)

Spring Break

Well Spring Breaks over, so that rocks... NOT! I have to start waking up early, studying, and going to class again soon. But this marks the begining of the end of the Year. Another thing I'm looking forward to is my 21st birthday, I'm very excited to finally get to drink margaritas with my parents. My birthday is just one month away and I can't wait! Other than that there isnt much going on. The vollyball tournament is coming up and that should be a blast. Well thats all I got. Until next time

Spring Break!!!

My spring break is going to be so much cooler than Katies!!! I'm going to good ol' Kearney, Nebraska!! Okay so maybe it won't be that cool but I'm still pretty excited. I haven't seen my family since Christmas time and St. Patricks day is my sisters birthday so it will be nice to spend time with her. Hopefully the rest of this week goes pretty fast. I had an A&P test on Monday so now that I have that behind me it should be a pretty easy week. I wish spring would just get here already! We keep having a few days of really nice weather where I can even wear shorts and then we have days like today were it's only 6 degrees outside! I'm tired of having to bundle up everytime I walk outside. Summer vacation would be nice too...

VEGAS

Spring break is coming up next week....and guess what...IM GOING TO VEGAS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell I am excited? Well I am, very much so! I am going with my boyfriend and a group of 8 others (3 couples and 2 singles). This is our second year in a row during spring break that we have gone to Vegas. My man wants to make it a tradition, so far it is I guess. The pools open while we are there, with St. Patty's day also in the mix. I am excited to see the sites more than anything, and really hope to see a show of some sort as well.
My room pretty much looks like this right now, as I am trying to get all my laundry done and organized before I have to pack (although I do wish my room looked like this pic (as you may know what I am about to say) becuase of the dog!)
Ok next time I am on I will let you know how Vegas goes!!

Lifepointe

I recently joined the gym Lifepointe and I LOVE it! They have lots of great classes to take and you don't even feel like you're working out. The newest class that I have started taking is BodyCombat. Its pretty much a self defense class teaching you how to punch and kick. Its sweet. Everyone should join and put my name down for a reference so I get money off my membership :) You also get half off for being a student at BryanLGH. On the other hand I am so ready for spring break! Its going to be nice to have nothing to do besides working occasionally. My sisters birthday is on St. Patricks day so I will probably head back to Kearney for that. Hopefully I don't have any homework over break but I doubt that will happen...

Registration

There are a bunch of stuffed envelopes in the office today that are filled with registration stuff. Im excited to start my third/fifth semester of school. This semester was just a bunch of pre reqs, and i want out! I'm hoping to take abnormal Psych nex semester so that I can Be a minor in Social Sciences. But pretty much when its time to sign up for classes I just go into Pam and say work your magic and she usually gives me a great schedule, THANKS PAM!!!! so i talked about that stuff which is great, buuuuuuut I'm going to Watchmen tomorrow at MIDNIGHT! I'm so excited I can barely Stand it. I actually brought my Watchmen Book to work today so that in the library I can read it front to back hopefully all tonight. I'm going with my friend Carter, it took me a while to decide who I was going to go with, I've actually told people that cant go with me including my roommate and his friend Brianna (Because they talk during movies, and I would snap their necks if they interupted my movie!). I try to not watch the previews because I don't want to see that much of it before I see the Movie. I think the graphics are going to be amazing, I think the dialoge will be close to the comic, and I hope they fixed the ending. In the book the story just kind of ends without having an ending. Zac Snyder said he wanted to change the end, but didnt want make fans hate the ending so we'll see what happens.

2 weeks in 1 blog

I have finally finished my painting and it I am very happy with it. over the last 3 weeks it was flying by so quick i didn't take that many pictures but here are the ones leading up to the finish of the project

And then finally I was don't and it ended up looking like this:
A lot of people have asked me if I used a stencil, but its as big as my wall, and i didn't even know they made them that big. I actually brought the image up on my computer and would look at it from the other side of my room and drew it free hand like that. there are definitely mistakes on, but I love it and am hoping to put something on the opposite wall. How's that for Talent Shelby?
Anyway, Ash Wednesday is today meaning its time to start lent. as my lent I'm actually taking a tip from our Muslim brothers and doing a Ramadan type thing. I'm not going to eat for 40 days while the suns up, all i have to make sure I do is not pig out when the sun goes down which I believe I can do. As Shelby said hopefully it will get nice out so I can start riding my bike to school and work and loose some access weight.
to respond to KT's blog, I have almost all of the True Beauty's recorded on my DVR, but I guess I can just delete them now that I know who wins!!! try a spoiler alert next time please!!!! But yeah that girl was pretty nice, and definitely nice looking so she was a good choice.
Last but not least on my blog I wanted to remind everybody that The Watchmen Comes out in a week and a half, I'm so excited I'm pretty sure I'm going at midnight. Hopefully I can find some one that has read it so they can go with me.
Well that's about all I have, until next week when I'll probably talk about how excited I am for Watchmen

Hello World

Here I go again on my reality TV...Ya Julia won "True Beauty" last night, and she was a good pick, I do agree! I still don't think Joel should have made it as far as he did (runner up), especially in terms of "inner beauty". If you don't know, the show picked a bunch of really beautiful people and didn't tell them the show was about inner and outer beauty (whoever wins gets to be in People Magazine's 100 most beautiful people issue and win $100,000), in the end Julia was the winner with the most inner and outer beauty. It was kind of a lame show, but I got into it, go figure
The Bachelor's final show is next Monday and I am super excited to see who he picks, and how he handles Deanna coming back! I think that part is just for show, but who knows maybe he will want her back after all!

Ok no more reality tv (although I am excited our computer finally let us put pictures up!), how bout the weather?! It's awesome today! Until it snows again, like I think it is supposed to...ah well I love snow!
Until next time...

Untitled

Riley is actually lying about us running. There is no way im going to get up on a saturday morning to train for a 5K. Hes just jealous because I don't even need to train for the non existant 5k. Once the weather is nice Riley and I are going to have bike races though. Im totally going to win. This week has been pretty slow since I had tests in ALL of my classes last week. And then there was that crazy crazy snow storm. They were predicting 4-6 inches but that usually means we get nothing. I was supposed to go to the state BSNA convention in North Platte but that was cancelled so hopefully we will be able to go next year because it seems like it would be a really interesting experience.

P.S. Riley has no TALENT

Riley's Boring Blog

Its a boring blog because i cant attach any pictures! I finished my painting behind my bed, but I cant show you guys how awesome it is. But if you really wanna see it you can come find me and I'll show you the picture on my phone. My lossing weight went south now that its the third week, but its ok. Because Shelby asked me if I wanted to help her train for a 5 k, so it looks like I'll be running with shelby EVERY DAY!!! and hopefully the weathwer starts to get better so I can start riding my bike to school again. Then the pounds will start to go (that's the plan anyway) Kt, I gotta tell you those dogs look very upset about something, I want a real Beagle those things ROCK!!! I'm glad you had a Happy Valentines though, mine was decent.
See boring blog, hopefully next time the computer will let me put pictures on my blog

Happy Late Valentines Day!

I didn't do a whole lot for the holiday, just made some spaghetti at home and watched a movie with my man and his roomies, yes how romantic. haha. I did get a really cozy super soft blanket and pillow that I now sleep with every night, so that definatley made my day! (added to the 7 other pillows and 4 stuffed animals and 2 blankets that I already sleep with)

I know you may be sick of my dog pictures, but I decided I want a "puggle" which is a mix of a pug and beagle! They are sooo cute! So along with my puggle that I want, my boyfriend decided he wants a french mastiff...if you don't know what these are, they are HUGE!
But they are adorable as well. We figured they could be friends! :)

On another note, school is speeding up, and things are getting pretty interesting. I find myself struggling to let myself be ok with making really stupid mistakes on tests, as my last test displayed. I was pretty stressed about it for 4 days post test...(if you don't know this, I am extremely hard on myself when it comes to tests and school, not always such a pleasant thing) and yes I am still struggling with letting myself accept it (ok so I didn't do that bad, but I am not happy with myself regardless).
So besides the wonderful test world, our days of scanning are coming along well. I still look forward to every Wednesday where we get to learn a new skill or view while scanning the heart. I am actually dreaming about scanning now, which is pretty cool because I love dreaming about what I love to do, so yeah double bonus! Cheezy I know, but it's true, I seriously love this stuff more and more everyday!
ok I won't bore you with any more school stuff.
Until next time...

Riley is planning on shedding the POUNDS!!!!

Today while looking in the health section of CNN.com for a story to blog about I found an 8 week activity plan. Its free, shows videos of your work outs and helps you choose what to eat. I started off with a weight of 232, waist 42 in, and after a long debate about what it means 43 in hips. today, since i started after i ate lunch, (pizza and breadsticks) I am already behind since i was suppose to eat fish and rice. Oops. but that just means after my regular work out im going to do some yoga. some of the food they are suggesting, im going to have to pass on, such as a breakfast shake, and stuff like that. but i will be cutting down on stuff like pop and greasy foods. I hope to be 220 pounds by the end of april.
on another note Ive been painting a design on my wall and thought id keep you guys that look at the blog up to date on the progress...

Hello Again

so...unlike Riley and Shelby...I completely love snow and wintery weather...

I had found an awesome snowy picture that had snowflakes with cute adorable dogs, but I couldn't get it to upload on the other computer so I had to find a different one. Penguins are probably my second favorite animal, next to dogs, so I figured why not put them on here instead? Aren't they cute!
I have officially had my first test of the semester in Core 1, it was a lot of review, which was nice, but it was of course still challenging. Things are going very well and I am loving skills lab where we actually get to scan. And I am quickly learning that I will need a lot more volunteers than I thought, so anyone out there that wants to check out adult cardiac sonography, or just wants a sonogram of their heart, let me know and I can scan you and show you the lab!
Outside of school, I have been trying hard to get my workouts to fit into my daily routine. I am always finding myself ready to go to the gym around 5 or 5:30 (pm of course) which is the worst time to go becuase it is soooo crowded!
Ok so I just had to put a doggie on here...how cute is this?
This one reminds me of Sara's (one of our admission counselors) dogs.
Ok so I am totally wanting a dog REALLY bad, possibly for when I go to clinicals. I don't want to be too lonely!! :) Any ideas out there let me know, we will try to make this thing interactive? Which dog would be a good cuddle dog (medium sized), that can be home for several hours at a time, doesn't bark, and doesn't shed a lot, but is a good guard dog, but not mean (so I can feel safe)?

So I went to the BEST concert ever! coheed's set was short but i was going crazy, so if they would have been on for much longer I may have passed out from excitement. I almost got kicked out for crowd surfing to much, It was so much fun I got to crowd surf to my favorite song ever, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3. I was in heaven. Then Slipknot came on. My expectations were low but they were amazing. I had so much fun that when i got home I pretty much passed out I was so tired. I woke up the next day and was 4 pounds lighter. BEST concert ever!!! On another note, I am sick of the snow as well shelby, It's getting old. At least it isnt like -16 degrees anymore though. And Shelby, I hate to tell you, you may not love your first couple nursing classes. they have a lot of great information, and presentations are fun, but you dont do any lab things, thats what you do 3rd semester!
