Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

I wish everyone good luck with the rest of the semester. I know everyone is looking forward to Christmas / Winter break. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! - LB

23 and counting!

"I can't believe we have another test 2 weeks before finals!" "Well I havn't even started my paper yet that is due in 5 days!" "And skills lab test out too!" "Ah, I am so stressed and tired of studying, how much longer do we have left?!" These are just some of the bits and pieces of conversations I have picked up as I walk down the halls, and don't try to deny it...I've heard you! Yes I myself have also taken part in such conversations, but my one contribution that is different from all others is "My 21st birthday is this week but I have 7am clinicals the next day, a paper and presentation due tuesday, and...wait for it...a test on Monday!" I guess my birthday is getting put on hold until winter break. Some of you may have already started the countdown to the end of semester before Thanksgiving break like I did, but for those of you who have not I say to you, over acheiver! No just kidding, I'm sure everyone is stressed with those end of semester papers and projects that get put on the back burner until you look at your planner, or the back of your hand since your paper supply has pretty much run dry by now, and see that they are due next week...not to mention the tests that get squeezed in a week and a half before finals! We all stress and complain and say we "just don't even care anymore" but we all somehow manage to come back semester after semester. So for those of you already counting, take a deep breathe its almost time! And for those over achievers who have yet to figure out that we are on the home stretch....23 DAYS TILL WINTER BREAK! And if I don't have a chance to blog again before then...since I am so busy...have a Merry Christmas and be safe!

Busy Busy Busy

Sorry I haven't been on to blog much lately, but I really haven't been around a lot. I've been out on the road for about the last four weeks for clinical. I had some awesome experiences along the way! I got to head back towards home for a couple of days at the Antelope Memorial Hospital. I couldn't have asked for a better experience as rural nurses really do "do it all". It didn't hurt getting to stay at home and have some home cooking again as well!!! Next stop, the Children's Hospital in Omaha. I don't think anyone really knows how resilient and inspiring kids can be until you've visited a place like the Children's Hospital. Kids that were so sick that they could barely move were the one's putting smiles on our faces! These are just a few of the great experiences that BryanLGH College tries to get their students.
Back here on campus, I've been engulfed in studying for tests for my Family and Critical Care classes. It really amazes me how much cool stuff we learn in just one semester. SGA has been busy too. We're looking in to improving student life by getting a new copier for the library, looking at getting different uniforms, getting a student membership to a workout facility, and hooking our student ID badges up to accounts that can used in the Bookstore and in the Plaza Cafe. Another project that is picking up speed is plans for an all school formal at the Cornhusker Hotel next January. As you can tell, there are plenty of ways to be involved here at BryanLGH College if you want to. If you want to know any more about any of these things or others ways to be involved, just ask!

Pay at the Pump

Just as an FYI... I received an email from my mom about a new gang initiation and wanted to share it with everyone....
A friend stopped at a pay-at-the-pump gas station to get gas. Once she filled her gas tank and after paying at the pump and starting to leave, the voice of the attendant inside came over the speaker. He told her that something happened with her card and that she needed to come inside to pay. The lady was confused because the transaction showed complete and approved. She relayed that to him and was getting ready to leave but the attendant, once again, urged her to come in to pay or there'd be trouble. She proceeded to go inside and started arguing with the attendant about his threat. He told her to calm down and listen carefully: He said that while she was pumping gas, a guy slipped into the back seat of her car on the other side and the attendant had already called the police. She became frightened and looked out in time to see her car door open and the guy slip out. The report is that the new gang initiation thing is to bring back a woman and/or her car..One way they are doing this is crawling under women's cars while they're pumping gas or at grocery stores in the nighttime The other way is slipping into unattended cars and kidnapping the women. Please pass this on to other women, young and old alike. Be extra careful going to and from your car at night. If at all possible, don't go alone! This is real!!

Useless Statistics To Keep You Safe

Here are some stats I found today. You may find them interesting.

On average, 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens every year.
*during a boring lecture, don't chew on your pen - use gum!

More people are killed annually by donkeys than die in air crashes.
*I guess don't mess with a caged donkey!

13 people are killed every year from falling vending machines.
*if your candy gets stuck, don't shake it - tell the office! :)

The sport that sends the most people to the emergency room every year is ping pong.
*remember, your not playing tennis.

More people are killed each year by bee stings than shark attacks.
*friends don't let friends with bee allergies forget their EPI Pens

You are more likely to be killed by a champagne cork than by a poisonous spider.
*if you see someone opening champagne, hit the floor

Have a good week. - Luke Ballmer

Introduction

Welcome to the BryanLGH College blog. My name is Ross and I will be the other person typically responding to your postings. I too work a few hours a week in the admissions office. I am a second semester junior in the BSN class, so I'm usually on the go! Also, I'm the President of Bryan's first official Student Government Association, and we are really excited to get this going. We had our first meeting Sept. 20th and had a pretty good turnout with 25 students and faculty attending! Our major discussion revolved around our goals for the year and forming a Student Activity Committee and the activities that they want to plan. If you want to come check SGA out or have any ideas, all students are welcome. Our next meeting is Oct. 4 at 6:15 p.m. in room 202. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a good weekend!!!

Where's The College !?!

The Google Satellite hasn't snapped a recent photo of the medical center in a while, obviously. Does anyone know how old this aerial shot is? Comment on your thoughts.
