March Madness is Upon Us...

Our HLC visitors will be here next week, March 10-12. Wondering what the nerf basketball backboard has being doing floating around 2nd floor of the College? Well wonder no more, SGA is coaching students March 6th & 7th on topics that may be discussed in the student forum. To visit with "Coaches" students should stop by the Rotunda between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., there will be prizes and all participants will be placed in a drawing to win one of four $25 GAS GIFT CARDS!!!

Tip #10: The College offers six degrees: four Associate degrees in Allied Health, a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, and a Master's degree in Nurse Anesthesia.

Tip #11: The College accepts eleven Nurse Anesthesia students per year.

Tip #12: General Education is the College's newest area of study. Its creation allows students in our degree-granting programs to take all requirements on site.

Tip #13: Why should students take their General Education courses at BryanLGH?

• Because we are the only college in the city of Lincoln that offers General Education courses geared specifically toward the healthcare provider.

HLC-NCA Accreditation Visit for the College of Health Sciences

On March 10-12, a Visiting Evaluation Team from the Higher Learning Commission-North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will be visiting with faculty, students, administration, community members, alumni, and the Board of Trustees of the BryanLGH College of Health Sciences. This comprehensive evaluation visit will be among final steps in the College’s efforts to achieve regional accreditation with the North Central Association.

HLC tips for students:
1)The College's General Education program began in 2006. Today, the College offers approximately 30 General Education courses onsite to support students pursuing their Nursing and Allied Health degrees.

2) The five General Education subject areas at the College are: Communications, Humanities/Fine Arts, Mathematics/Economics, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.

3)"Specialized accreditation" is accreditation given to a particular program - e.g. Nursing or Cardiovascular Technology. Accreditation through the HLC provides accreditation to the entire College.

4) The College of Health Sciences currently hold Candidacy status with the Higher Learning Commission. This March, the College will host a site visit as part of its application to receive Initial Accreditation. Initial Accreditation will mean that the College is fully accredited.

5) With receipt of Candidacy status, the College became "affilated" with the Higher Learning Commission and eligible to offer Federal Financial Aid to all degree-seeking students that qualify.

6) The accreditation process is approximately ten years in length and requires graduating a full cohort of students from the new program(s) before an application for initial accreditation can even be considered.

Welcome Back

We are now halfway through the first week of classes and I hope everything is going well for everyone. Stress levels are still managable at this point right?! I would like to thank those students who purchased tickets for our winter formal, we are hoping it will be successful and will continue in the future. I know the weather isn't going to be very good so make sure you are careful coming and going. This semester is going to be an eventful one with the many activities going on around the collge. We are coming to the end of accredidation process for both the nursing and the General Sonography Program. This will be the first accredidation for General Sonography, so now us allied health students will be able to take boards right away which is exciting! No one likes to start studying again a year after graduation! There is also going to be an Exploration Day this semester which is a good way to get in some volunteer hours. Make sure to talk to your instructors to see if there is any possibilities for you.
I would like some suggestions as to what the students would like to see on our blog. I have not received much feedback so if you have any suggestions please let me know. I try to make this as interesting as possible. As for now I need to be on my way to my first skills lab of the semester... I hope I still remember how to scan! Have a good week.

23 and counting!

"I can't believe we have another test 2 weeks before finals!" "Well I havn't even started my paper yet that is due in 5 days!" "And skills lab test out too!" "Ah, I am so stressed and tired of studying, how much longer do we have left?!" These are just some of the bits and pieces of conversations I have picked up as I walk down the halls, and don't try to deny it...I've heard you! Yes I myself have also taken part in such conversations, but my one contribution that is different from all others is "My 21st birthday is this week but I have 7am clinicals the next day, a paper and presentation due tuesday, and...wait for it...a test on Monday!" I guess my birthday is getting put on hold until winter break. Some of you may have already started the countdown to the end of semester before Thanksgiving break like I did, but for those of you who have not I say to you, over acheiver! No just kidding, I'm sure everyone is stressed with those end of semester papers and projects that get put on the back burner until you look at your planner, or the back of your hand since your paper supply has pretty much run dry by now, and see that they are due next week...not to mention the tests that get squeezed in a week and a half before finals! We all stress and complain and say we "just don't even care anymore" but we all somehow manage to come back semester after semester. So for those of you already counting, take a deep breathe its almost time! And for those over achievers who have yet to figure out that we are on the home stretch....23 DAYS TILL WINTER BREAK! And if I don't have a chance to blog again before then...since I am so busy...have a Merry Christmas and be safe!

Busy Busy Busy

Sorry I haven't been on to blog much lately, but I really haven't been around a lot. I've been out on the road for about the last four weeks for clinical. I had some awesome experiences along the way! I got to head back towards home for a couple of days at the Antelope Memorial Hospital. I couldn't have asked for a better experience as rural nurses really do "do it all". It didn't hurt getting to stay at home and have some home cooking again as well!!! Next stop, the Children's Hospital in Omaha. I don't think anyone really knows how resilient and inspiring kids can be until you've visited a place like the Children's Hospital. Kids that were so sick that they could barely move were the one's putting smiles on our faces! These are just a few of the great experiences that BryanLGH College tries to get their students.
Back here on campus, I've been engulfed in studying for tests for my Family and Critical Care classes. It really amazes me how much cool stuff we learn in just one semester. SGA has been busy too. We're looking in to improving student life by getting a new copier for the library, looking at getting different uniforms, getting a student membership to a workout facility, and hooking our student ID badges up to accounts that can used in the Bookstore and in the Plaza Cafe. Another project that is picking up speed is plans for an all school formal at the Cornhusker Hotel next January. As you can tell, there are plenty of ways to be involved here at BryanLGH College if you want to. If you want to know any more about any of these things or others ways to be involved, just ask!
