Break...
Well our students are all on break now until Spring semester, which begins January 10th. It's very quiet around campus today. Graduation was Saturday and we said goodbye to 36 fabulous nursing students who earned their BSNs.
Faculty are around today finishing grading and getting those grades turned in for the end of the semester. And we're all looking forward to our long weekend coming up.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Nearing the End....
of the semester that is! Whoo hoo! Two days of class, plus next week and then a week of finals. Faculty and Staff are planning a potluck next Friday to get some home cooked food into the stomachs of our students before they dig in and study over the weekend for their finals!
This semester marks the first FULL semester that we've used the plastinates in Anatomy lab and Noelle, our birthing simulator, in the Simulation Center. We have such great resources for our students to take advantage of!
If you are thinking about applying to one of our programs our Fall deadlines are quickly approaching, February 1st for Nursing and February 15th fro Sonography!

Slacking...
We've been slacking a little around here writing our blogs, so are renewing our commitment to bring you blog posts on a weekly basis. We've been traveling to 80 communities in Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas, sending 7500+ mailings, 3000+ phone calls and we won't even get into your emails and those numbers. Thanks for keeping us so busy.
We are all looking forward to the holiday season coming up. Thanksgiving is next week and we'll all be spending some time with our family to renew and get ready for the end the semester.
Until next time....

Crazy Busy!
Hey everyone!
It sure has been awhile! I have been so busy with school, clinicals, and work that I really haven't had much free time lately. Things have been especially busy in the admissions office lately with both of the admissions counselors out for most of each week traveling to different high schools around the state speaking to prospective students. If you're interested in learning more about any of our programs talk to your high school counselor about when one of our admissions counselors will be coming to your high school! Today I am going to Hastings to watch my little sister play volleyball and that is probably the excitement of my week...how sad! I hope everyone stays warm and dry today!

clinical
Well classes have resumed and the craziness begins! Nursing care 1 and pharm take up a lot of my time weather it be clinical hours or just studying all of the meds I now am expected to know. I love the fall season too especially the weather. Husker football is here too and I am proud to say they are ranked 8th!

Wow! It has been awhile. We are already in our fourth week of classes. I can't believe how fast this semester is already going. I have already began scanning and it is sooo much fun! I have really enjoyed being able to scan but it has been pretty stressful because I am still not sure what exactly I am looking at sometimes. But that will all come with time! I will also be starting my once a week clinicals in 2 weeks, which will be a change. Other than class, I have been spending the weekends with my roomates and going to the husker football games. GO BIG RED!

Hope everyone is staying cool this week as temps have been in the high 90's! I am taking a mini-vacation starting today and going up north to my hometown for our annual Knox County Fair. It's a pretty big deal and we usually get some good entertainment- this year we have the Locash Cowboys and Gloriana so it should be a good time!

Last week
This is my last week of summer classes, WAHOOO!! I am so ready for a break. I will have a two week break before my fall semester starts August 23rd. I will be super busy when that starts but until then I will try to enjoy my last days of summer! I plan on going home for a few days and going to Iowa for a few days because I have a lot of family from there that I haven't gotten to see in a while.
For you all your husker football fans, there are 32 days until the first game!!

This week I was downtown volunteering for the 2010 Special Olympics National games. It was SO fun to be a part of this organization and to have the privilege to interact with the athletes. I worked at Pershing in the Healthy Athletes division. Here they were able to go through and have their teeth looked and procedures done, vision checked and glasses prescribed on the spot, hearing checked (over 10 pairs of hearing aids were given out) and have their feet looked at and orthopedic inserts made on the spot for them. There was also a station for fitness to test their strength, help them stretch and learn about fitness. My first day I helped the athletes do strength exercises and the other two days I helped out at the Fit Feet station. It was so great to meet so many athletes and volunteers from all over the US. No one had a bad comment about Nebraska either :) I encourage everyone to help out with this organization if you get the chance!

Paaaaacking!
I had a really good weekend with my two girlfriends that came down to visit me. We got up Saturday morning and went to the farmers market. After that we spent about 4 hours shopping and ended the night by eating at Olive Garden, yuuuuum! This week has been nothing but packing!! I am SUPER excited to move in with Julie and Abby BUT, the packing is not one bit fun. I have also been helping my boyfriend move this week. It will be nice just to relax on Sunday and be glad its over! Hope everyone is having a great week! It sure is hot out!

Hope everyone had a pleasant holiday weekend! Mine was spent up in Sioux Falls SD kayaking and canoeing down some rivers. We have our roommate roundup on Friday and then it's BryanLGH night at the Salt Dogs game. I'm taking my best friend from high school and better see some fellow students there! I really don't have an interest in baseball, but I heard there were fireworks after the game :)

Not a whole lot going on this week besides tests and studying for me. I only have 2 more patho classes left this summer. WAHooOOoo!! It will be nice to have that over with, then I can spend more time on physics as the sonography students have to take a physics board exam. Yuck!! By the way, for all you who didn't know this, General Sonography is now called Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Don't forget to come to the pool party at Patty Bollinger's house this friday the 25th at 1 p.m. Come, enjoy some treats, and soak up some rays!

Hey everyone,
Its been a very busy summer for me and I'm sure it has been the same for all of you! I have spent most of my time working and when I'm not doing that I try to spend my time at the lake or by a pool relaxing! So far I haven't done anything very exciting this summer, but I will be traveling to Austin, TX before school starts to move my brother down there so that should be pretty fun.
For all of you incoming students our roommate roundup is on July 9th this year so plan on attending if you need a roommate or if you would just like to meet new people! You can call Lisa at 402-481-8697 to R.S.V.P. Also, we will be having a book swap after the roommate roundup so everyone can sell their old books and buy books that they will need for the upcoming semester for a cheap price! That evening there will be a Salt Dogs game so everyone should go to that too!

Hope everyone is having a good summer so far! It's going by faster than I would like it unfortunately! I would love to see my classmates again, but just not in school :) I've discovered my two new favorite shows to keep me occupied this summer: Modern Family (even though the new season doesn't start until fall) on ABC and Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List on bravo. They are both comedy shows and are hilarious so you should check them out! Welp that's about all I know!

Well, there hasn't been a whole lot of anything new going on this week. I went home last weekend for Memorial Day. I went golfing with my dad and went to my great Grandma's 88th birthday party. It was nice to see family that I haven't seen in a while. It is getting so hot out and I LOVE it!! Hopefully we won't have too many storms with hail this summer.
I am going out this weekend for a friends birthday but other than that, I am afraid I will be studying. Have a good weekend!

...sweet summertime!
The summer is off to a busy start! I recently moved into a beautiful duplex south of town with some girls from school and am still in the process of unpacking, organizing and decorating. My Memorial Weekend was nice and relaxing for the most part I laid by the river and got some much needed sun! I can't wait to just settle down and coast through the rest of summer just working and spending time with family and friends until the hustle and bustle of school starts up again. Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend and a good week so far :)

Summertime!
School is out for the summer and the college is very quiet! As for my plans this summer they consist of working, moving and going to the river. It will be nice and relaxing before next summer when I have practicum and go back to Haiti! Which I am also anticipating :)

Summer
It is finally almost summer and I can hardly wait! All I have left is one Chemistry final and a Math final. I'm not worried about the math final at all, but the Chemistry one could be a little tricky. It's comprehensive so that always makes me nervous when I have to remember everything from the entire semester. Tonight is our end of the year BBQ for the admissions office and that should be pretty fun. Next friday my brother graduates with his Bachelor's in construction management from UNK so I'm going home for that once finals are over. Also, I took the entire week after finals off the kind of unwind from the semester and see all of my family that is coming in for the graduation and I can't wait! Hopefully the weather is nice so I can spend some time at the lake working on my tan :) My family has a boat, but they don't trust me to drive it(imagine that), so I'm going to have to sweet talk my brother into taking me to the lake! Even though school will be out next week I will still be super busy. I will be working a lot to work up my bank account and when Im not working I will probably be working out or hanging out with friends. Also, later in May I am going with one of the old student assistants (Riley) to another old student assistant's (Katie) wedding. Well I guess thats all for now!

Almost Summer!
Hey Everyone!
I have 5 days left of classes, 4 finals, and 1 presentation left until my first year of college is over. It seems really weird that one year has already gone by. I am not looking forward to the studying this weekend but I am looking forward to summer. Way excited. Even though I am taking classes this summer for the General Sonography program and I don't even have a week break between finals and my summer classes. The weather is finally starting to warm up and stay warm. It will be nice to go lay out at the pool and tan! I am pretty excited to get to go golfing and do things outdoors.
Well I hope everyone's finals go well. Good luck :)

....
The weather has everyone in the mood for summer as it's been in the 60's and 70's lately. Which is perfect except for that crazy Nebraska wind! I am so excited to get my bike out and hit the trails (and hopefully continue this motivation throughout summer)!...Lincoln has some really great walk/bike trails all over the city. The Cornhusker Sate Games are also coming up towards the end of June or July and I am very excited to compete in the high jump this year. Hopefully I don't make a fool of myself but from what I've heard, the games are really fun!

Long Time...
Hey everyone
Its been quite awhile since I've been on here! I have been super busy with classes and working. I'm now on the work study program at the school where I am required to work 16 hours a week and in turn get paid 3 extra dollars an hour that goes straight to my tuition. It is so nice that they have something like this set up because it covers almost a class a semester! Other than that I just got a job at Alternative Tan and I absolutely love it! I work very flexible hours and the environment is extremely laid back and fun!
This semester has been pretty tough now that I am starting to get into some of my core classes, and after spring break I have had no motivation to do anything! I only have to stay motivated for 6 more weeks and then its summer! I can't wait!
This Saturday we have our Exploration Day here at Bryan so I'll be working that. At the Exploration Day people get a chance to learn a little more about the college and the different programs that we offer here. Also, students can see a hands on demonstration of each different program! I encourage anyone that is interested in the college to attend, and if you can't come this weekend we offer one in the fall also.

I totally agree with Julie! Break wasn't long enough! I spend most of my time sitting around doing nothing but watching movies and watching March Madness Basketball! I filled out brackets and my mens bracket went downhill when Kansas lost! I've also been watching the NIT because of the huskers and also because Wyoming is still in it. My friend from back home, Sara, plays for Wyoming. So watching basketball and going to school is pretty much all going on in my life right now. Hope you all enjoyed your break!

Springing forward...
Hope everyone had an awesome spring break! It's hard getting back into the routine of school. I had an eventful spring break to say the least...a few students from Bryan and I traveled to Cap-Haitien, Haiti. It was an unforgettable experience. I learned a lot of new things and put my nursing skills to the test as we helped over a thousand people. We worked in a couple clinics and a school outside the city. All of our supplies were donated. I wish everyone could get the same opportunity I had. It really changed our perspective of how we live in America and how the natives of Haiti live. We need to appreciate the resources we have everyday.

This week I have spent a lot of time studying as I had two tests and a quiz. Yesterday I took my second Physics test. After taking the test, I felt way more confident than I did after that first one. The class is definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken and it is taking a lot more studying than I expected! At least we are already half way through the semester! I'm pretty excited for this weekend because its girls state basketball down here in Lincoln. Some of my friends and family are coming up that I haven't seen in a while. I plan on going to a few basketball games and just relaxing. Glad that we only have one more week until Spring Break! The break is much needed!!

Well it's Monday! I have come to find that as I progress through nursing school, each semester seems to take more and more of my "out of class" time. So much preparation and studying goes into the nursing courses and labs! I like it though, interesting stuff. Hope everyone had a good weekend! Mine was crazy to say the least. My boyfriend's nephew is in the hospital recovering from encephalitis and some brain damage, it's so sad because he's only 3. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him, we are just SO thankful he's alive. Needless to say most of my time was spent at Children's in Omaha. Then my mom was admitted to the hospital and discovered she has colitis! Bad luck this weekend for medical emergencies. Hope we don't get any more snow either! I'm ready for warm weather...only 3 more week until our Haiti mission :)

Hey Everyone,
It's been awhile since I've blogged! Seems like this semester is flying by. We are already 6 weeks into it. This semester has been way busier than my first semester but yet, I've still found fun things to do in my free time. Last weekend I went with a friend to Dear John. It's definitely a tear jerker. I cried more than once! I thought the plot of the story was good but it wasn't the ending I was expecting. It was kind of blah to me. This weekend one of my friends from high school is coming and we are planning to go to Valentines Day. I've heard it's a pretty funny movie so hopefully it'll be good! I hope all of you reading this are finding time in your busy lives to get out and have a little fun.

Update from Springfield IL
Ok, so it has been a really long time since I blogged last. I had just moved here to Springfield IL for my full time clinical experience in adult cardiac sonography last time I blogged (probably back in August or September). I guess I've been having such a great time I forgot to tell everyone about it. I can honestly say that this has been one of the best decisions of my life, I absolutely love it here and I have learned so much more than I ever imagined. If anyone out there has a chance to leave your comfort zone and get out of the state for a chance of a lifetime, I would highly suggest it. It teaches you so much more than career skills, but about life, making you stronger in more ways than thought possible. I never thought I would be able to have an apt all alone, move to a place where I didn't know anyone, and not have a clue what the future brings, but I have shocked myself. Let me say, if I can do this, anyone can! Miss you all!

Resolutions
Hey everyone,
As always one of my new years resolutions is to get in shape, but this year its really killing me! I have been running and lifting weights every evening at Lifepointe and I'm extremely sore! For anyone that doesn't know, Lifepointe is a gym at 27th and Pine Lake here in Lincoln that as students of BryanLGH College of Health Sciences we get a discount at. It is a very nice gym and I love going there! It's always clean and the staff are really friendly.
Classes really haven't gotten too hard yet so I haven't had much homework or studying to do. I'm sure in no time I will be super busy with all of the work for each class.
This weekend I am planning on going to The Lovely Bones which is a movie about a girl that is murdered that is trying to help her family solver her murder from heaven. I read this book last semester and I loved it so I am looking forward to seeing if the movie is just as good.

Happy Holidays!
Hello Everyone,
The holiday season sure went fast and I can't believe it is time to start classes again. They will be starting up on Monday the 11th. I think everyone was shocked this holiday season as a big winter storm hit right before Christmas day. Hopefully everyone was able to make it back to their home or to see their families. And hopefully everyone got their share of food because I know I did, too many sugar cookies and puppy chow! It was very nice to see all my family and friends over break and just be lazy/relax.
I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, yay 2010!!

Long Time!
Hey Everyone!
Its been a long time since I've blogged, but we have been super busy in the office with both Lisa and Sara on maturnity leave. Hopefully things will slow down now that they are both back. My holiday season was very good. I got to enjoy Christmas with my family and even got snowed in a few extra days! The rest of break I have just been working and catching up on sleep I lost over finals week, but I only have one week left. Pretty soon it will be right back to being busy all the time so I have to relax now while I can.
